Australian Chainsaw Carving Championships 2017
Here is a little more info about a couple of the events already mentioned, and some interviews of Jeff and other carvers he has competed with.
In 2012 Jeff was awarded a star on the "Carvers Walk of Fame" in Mulda, Germany at the Blockhausen Husky World Cup.
Chetwynd, BC Competitions
Jeff was one of two American chainsaw wood carvers to participate in the Australian Chainsaw Carving Championships 2017. The other American wood carver was our friend Molly Wiste. It was a timed competition (as they all are) in which each artist was to carve a custom wood sculpture with an Australiana theme. These master wood carvers, weren't stump carving anymore, but racing the clock, competing, and at the same time befriending the other wood carvers. Robb Baste, an Australian local took first. Jeff couldn't complain, earning second place to a great friend allowed them to celebrate their victories together in good company. This competition no longer takes place.
Jeff is honored to be one of the American chainsaw carvers to receive invitations to different world wide events, and competitions. He is grateful for all of them including the ones he was unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts. Though Jeff doesn't feel the need to compete as much these days, the following are awards he has received, and a list of competitions he's participated in.
Jeff competed in the prestigious Chetwynd, BC competition eight times in his carving career and chose to "mic drop" after winning first place with his Lady Gaga sculpture, "Joanne" in 2018. The town of Chetwynd has every sculpture from its annual competition displayed throughout the town. If you ever find yourself in BC, it is worth meandering through Chetwynd to see these amazing sculptures and how far the wood sculpting world has come.
